When it comes to making your own there is no right or wrong way to go about it. It is very difficult to exactly replicate a dream catcher design. Any time you are working with dream catchers, there will be differences in how embellishments hang, or how intricate designs look. Here's another idea, thanks to Tiffany Clarke. We love how she decorates the paper plate and cuts star-shaped holes for threading the yarn. The rest of her approach is similar to the others, but we like hers in particular because it's so happy and colorful.
I hope the photos will help along with the written instructions. I have also linked my video tutorial below to give a first-hand look at how it was made. There are so many different styles, patterns, and designs for dream catchers, making each one individual and unique.
How to Make a Dream Catcher for Kids – 12 Different Ways
To start, cut the wire to the size you’d like your dream catcher to be (this is the kind I’m using). Then shape the wire into a circle and attach the ends to each other with a small piece of strong tape. This is an easy project for kids to do, with just a little bit of adult supervision. I developed it for my grade 5 students a number of years ago and it continues be a popular project. Students can alternate the beads, change their shapes and colours and add a variety of feathers to make individual designs. Using the glue gun, glue the feathers to the end of the strings hanging down. With a thinner yarn or cord, tie a knot around the hoop, cutting off the loose end. Lastly, let everything dry and then use a glue gun to attach the feathers to the ends of the yarn that are hanging down. After I finished the first coat I tied long lengths of yarn to one end of the hoop.

The crafty people over at Kiwicrate.com have their own way of making a dream catcher for kids. The process is similar to the others, but what we love about their approach is the unabashed use of beads. Paint glow in the dark fabric paint all over the dream catcher. Don't worry if it covers your colors, it will dry clear. Then once you’re done with that row, you’ll notice you’ve made a new set of lines with the yarn so continue wrapping in the middle of these lines.
Secure the string/yarn around the top of the hoop by pushing the knot through the loop. Tie one long piece of string/yarn/leather thread to the hoop at any point, and glue it in place for extra hold. Wrap it all the way around the hoop and secure it with a knot.
Step 8:
Loop the string around the hoop and back over itself to create a hitch. Make sure to pull the string tight to secure it before moving on to the next loop. Tie the string securely to the top of the circle.
